Jiu Fen Series: Getting There
In my excitement, I forgot to share how to get to Jiu Fen and Jin Gua Shi. So here it is.
I love going to these two places because of their proximity to Taipei City and the convenience of going there.
How to Get There?
Taking the Bus:
In my opinion, this is the most convenient way to get to Jiu Fen and Jin Gua Shi. It only costs a little more than NT$100 (maybe between NT$100 to NT$110). You can use your easycard to pay or you can pay the driver in cash. The trip takes about one hour (for Jiu Fen Old Street) to 1.5 hours (for Jin Gua Shi).
1. Go outside Exit 1 of MRT Zhongxiao Fuxing (忠孝復興) station
2. Outside Exit 1, you will see several bus signs. Look for Bus Number 1062 sign (Keelung bus). I think this is the first or second stop because the bus is usually empty when it gets here. Waiting time for the bus is between 15-20 minutes, so be patient!
3. Board the bus and enjoy the scenery throughout the trip!
The bus stop for Jiu Fen Old Street is the third to the last stop (if my memory serves me right). Usually the driver would call out at the stop and most passengers would alight here. If you want to go straight to Jin Gua Shi, that's the next stop after Jiu Fen Old Street. The bus will stop right at the entrance of Jin Gua Shi Gold Ecological Park.
Taking the Train:
Depending on where you're coming from, it may be more convenient to take the train, either from another place outside Taipei or from Taipei Main Station. I didn't take the train so I'm only sharing the directions I gathered from various websites.
1. Take the train north to Ruiefang Station.
2. After exiting the station, cross the street to the bus stop next to the Wellcome Supermarket and board the Keelung bus towards Jiufen. I think this is the same bus that came from Taipei (see above).
The bus trip is about15 minutes and costs about NT$15 to NT$25. Be ready to stand inside the bus since seats are usually taken already by passengers who boarded in Taipei.
Where to Go First?
I would recommend that you spend separate days exploring Jiu Fen and Jin Gua Shi because there's simply so much to explore and experience. But if you only have one day, I think it's best to go to Jin Gua Shi Gold Ecological Park first so that you can spend the whole morning and early afternoon exploring, hiking and taking in the scenery. Then from there, you can go to Jiu Fen Old Street to enjoy tea and rest your feet, shop and eat, eat, eat!
How to Get Back to Taipei?
From Jin Gua Shi Gold Ecological Park:
Simply go to the bus stop right across the entrance of the park. Take note, however, that not all buses go straight to Taipei. Some buses are Ruiefang-based only. These can take you to Jiu Fen Old Street and to the Ruiefang Train Station, but not to Taipei. To go straight back to Taipei, be sure to board Bus 1062 again.
From Jiu Fen Old Street:
Go to the bus stop right across 7-11 and line up. You can take the Ruiefang local bus back to Ruiefang Train Station or you can take Bus 1062 back to Taipei.
